The Whiterun guard take stationed themselves atop the walls in order to defend the city...
After finishing the previous quest, Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak volition tell you that you are going to assist take Whiterun. Report to Galmar Rock-Fist for orders, who will direct you to encounter him outside the city.
At this point, the Whiterun and Dragonsreach icons will disappear from the map and the city volition non exist reachable via fast travel for the duration of this quest, even if a house is endemic or if you have a spouse in Whiterun. Only the environment of the urban center can be reached via fast travel, or you tin can utilise a Railroad vehicle from Windhelm to go there by request Alfarinn, it will cost y'all 20 gold, however if you choose this option.
Head to the Whiterun Camp, southwest of Whiterun, and you volition notice that the besieging of Whiterun has already begun. Head to where Galmar is briefing the men on the attack and heed in. He will say your destination is the drawbridge that has been raised to keep the attackers out.
Once the rallying of the troops is washed, accuse in with Galmar and the troops. Don't worry too much most killing all the Imperials, as more spawn. When you reach the first prepare of wooden barricades is as well when you meet the first enemies. Breaking through the barricades is easy. Hit them a few times with a weapon and they suspension. Your journal will and then tell you to lower the drawbridge. Move up the path to the small-scale wooden bridge with the stone walls to your side, caput up there, and go up the walkway. You volition see two drawbridge levers over the drawbridge. Pull ane. The bridge will fall, and the soldiers will run into the metropolis.
Inside the Metropolis [edit]
...which is quickly overwhelmed by the Stormcloaks.
Caput into the urban center. Your destination now is Dragonsreach (It may be safer to stay with Galmar and the soldiers). Several barriers block the entrance to the plains district, which are destroyed after 3 blows from any weapon (power attacks make no divergence). Upon entering Dragonsreach, three soldiers will charge at yous, but they will die easily. Continue up the stairs, where Balgruuf volition shout about not letting you take the city without fighting back. Then he, 3 guards, and his Housecarl, Irileth, volition attack you. Kill the soldiers. After the jarl is reduced to 25% health, he volition stop the fight and surrender.
Vignar Gray-Mane will approach the jarl and they will have a brusk conversation. Galmar will cease the conversation later on a while, Vignar will walk off after a few more words and Balgruuf will address you for a minute. With Balgruuf stepping downward, Vignar takes the throne as the new Jarl of Whiterun. The quest will terminate there and the next quest, Liberation of Skyrim, will begin.
When you return to Ulfric Stormcloak in Windhelm, he commends y'all for the victory and rewards you with an enchanted leveled weapon and gives you the title "Ice-Veins".
Notes [edit]
- The Whiterun Guards faced in this boxing are significantly lower level than those normally patrolling the city.
- Bodies volition quite often disappear during this quest - this is intentional to reduce lag and is not a bug.
- After the battle, if you lot have an outstanding bounty in the Whiterun Hold, it will be erased.
- This quest, Battle for Whiterun (Imperial), Battle for Confinement, and Battle for Windhelm are all dissimilar radiant versions of the same quest.
- From here on, Stormcloak Soldiers volition take over as guards of the Whiterun Agree, though Whiterun Guards will go on to patrol Riverwood. Whether this is intentional or not is unknown.
- Taking the wagon directly to Whiterun automatically skips the objective to "Break through the Enemy Battlement".
- Afterwards getting your orders at the Whiterun Military machine army camp, you can head straight to Windhelm. The battle will be won in your absence, but Ulfric Stormcloak volition be disappointed that you lot ran away.
- Severio Pelagia dies at the showtime of this quest.
- If LuciaHF has been adopted, she will be transferred to the Bannered Mare until after the battle is over. This happens because her editor location is there and CWCitizensFlee will pick her up in one of the aliases.
- The Bannered Mare will take a barricade beyond the main entrance and both doors will be proficient locked, however if yous pick the lock, both Hulda and Saadia will have their normal speech options, welcoming yous and are willing to trade.
- Breezehome becomes locked once again, key required.
- Honningbrew Meadery is apprentice locked during this battle, however if you pick the lock Sabjorn volition be back in charge with both him and Mallus Maccius telling you lot to become out and treating you as if they don't know you. You lot are unable to trade with either of them.
- You will be unable to enter Jorrvaskr during or afterwards the battle as all the doors require a fundamental.
- Unused files suggest Jarl Balgruuf the Greater was intended to flee the boxing through a surreptitious passage located behind the throne rather than stay and fight.
- Stealing items causes a bounty to exist applied to Eastmarch rather than Whiterun.
Bugs [edit]
- After defeating the Jarl and getting him to surrender, the quest pointer may continue to signal to him, simply no interaction is possible and the quest does not update.
- Striking the Jarl and and so paying off the bounty may fix this.
- The doors to Jorrvaskr and the Underforge will become locked during this mission, and may not unlock later it's completed. Since the doors crave an unavailable cardinal, this renders the buildings (too as the Companions within) inaccessible to you.
-
You tin unlock the doors using the
unlock
console command. - Fast-traveling to any town then dorsum to Whiterun may resolve the upshot.
-
- You may not be able to break barricades as a werewolf.
- Aela the Huntress may disappear if she is your wife at the fourth dimension. She may come back eventually later on you accept moved on to the adjacent quest, Liberation of Skyrim.
- The Stormcloak soldiers might assault your follower(south). It is advised to order any followers to wait outside the gates before entering. ? [verification needed — Needs testing to determine if this is due to a issues or something else]
- Receiving the quest update "force Jarl Balgruuf the Greater to give up" may crusade the game to crash upon entering Whiterun or, if the urban center is entered beforehand, the game may crash immediately upon receiving it.
- Killing Whiterun guards instead of Imperial soldiers will incur a bounty, though it volition be removed later the boxing.
- Entering Chillfurrow Farm or Pelagia Farm during this quest may end information technology prematurely.
- Upon entering Whiterun, there may be no Imperial soldiers and you may be unable to get Balgruuf to surrender.
- Ulfric may not give you lot any orders before the boxing, which will prevent the quest from progressing.
- Upon completion of the quest when you lot are asked to return to Ulfric, it may non let you go on, and the normal dialog volition announced. In addition, the fast-travel markers will exist disabled and the boxing music may even so be running.
- If not in or near Whiterun, fast-travel to Pelagia Farm and walk into the urban center from there.
- If the battle music is yet running, go to Dragonsreach and await until information technology completes. The completion of the battle music too completes the Battle for Whiterun quest properly and solves nigh bug with the Civil State of war questline.
- If Whiterun'southward markers are yet disabled, walk dorsum out of the city gates, post-obit the path towards the stables until the markers reappear.
- Travelling to the Stormcloak military camp outside of Whiterun may besides resolve the issue.
